Amazon have shelled out a whopping £160 million to sign Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May up for a new car show .

The trio have signed up for three seasons, which will be produced by their long-time executive producer Andy Wilman and available exclusively to Amazon Prime customers.

Jay Marine, Vice President of Amazon Prime Video EU, said: “Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen.

“Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows. We can’t wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016.”

Despite signing for Amazon, the trio recently dropped a big hint yet that they could be off to US giant Netflix.

Pluto’s Heart of the Heart Swathed in Newly Discovered Icy Mountains and Vast Plains

APPLIED PHYSICS LABORATORY, LAUREL, MD – The highest resolution images ever taken of Pluto by humanity’s first spacecraft ever to visit the last planet in our solar system revealed unanticipated new discoveries of ice mountains as tall as the Rockies and vast crater less plains spanning hundreds of miles (kilometers) across – are now shown in our newly created context mosaic (featured above and below) of the heart-shaped ‘Tombaugh Regio’ area that dominates the alien planet’s surface.

These stunning and astoundingly young features only now unveiled on Pluto’s surface were created in very recent times, geologically speaking said top scientists leading NASA’s resounding successful New Horizons mission, at a media briefing on July 17.

This first high resolution surface mosaic was created from a newly unveiled series of black and white images centered in the Heart of Pluto’s huge ‘Heart, including the ice mountains of ‘Sputnik Planum’ and icy plains of ‘Norgay Montes.’

They were captured by New Horizons’ high resolution Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) on July 14 as the probe barreled past the Pluto-Charon binary planet system only four days ago on Tuesday, July 14, at over 31,000 mph (49,600 kph).

These highest resolution LORRI images focused on the “Heart of the Heart” of Pluto have now been stitched into a mosaic by the image processing team of Marco Di Lorenzo and Ken Kremer.

Realizing immediately that his life was in serious danger, Fanning kicked and punched as the shark wrapped around the front of him. The water safety crew in the boat and on the jetskis rushed over immediately. Had it not been for the crew’s fast-acting response, this situation couldve been a lot worse.

Latest Images of Pluto from New Horizons

These are the most recent high-resolution views of Pluto sent by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft, including one showing the four mysterious dark spots on Pluto that have captured the imagination of the world. The Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) obtained these three images between July 1 and 3 of 2015, prior to the July 4 anomaly that sent New Horizons into safe mode.

The left image shows, on the right side of the disk, a large bright area on the hemisphere of Pluto that will be seen in close-up by New Horizons on July 14. The three images together show the full extent of a continuous swath of dark terrain that wraps around much of Pluto’s equatorial region. The western end of the swath (right image) breaks up into a series of striking dark regularly-spaced spots, each hundreds of miles in size, which were first detected in New Horizons images taken in late June. Intriguing details are beginning to emerge in the bright material north of the dark region, in particular a series of bright and dark patches that are conspicuous just below the center of the disk in the right image. In all three black-and-white views, the apparent jagged bottom edge of Pluto is the result of image processing. The inset shows Pluto’s orientation, illustrating its north pole, equator, and central meridian running from pole to pole. 

Woman Unearths 8.52-Carat Diamond at Arkansas Park

One of the nation’s most unusual tourist attractions is Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, which bills itself as the only diamond-producing site in the world where ordinary folks actually can dig for diamonds themselves — and keep whatever they find. Park visitors get to peruse a 37.5-acre field that’s actually the eroded surface of an ancient, gem-bearing volcanic crater. Park officials make the search even easier by occasionally plowing the field to help bring the diamonds to the surface. For $6 plus a $30 deposit, they’ll even rent you a wooden screen and bucket so that you can sift though the soil.

We’re guessing that the park will be getting an increased number of visitors, after a Colorado woman named Bobbie Oskar son found an 8.52-carat white diamond there.

According to a State Parks of Arkansas press release, Oskar son was poking around the southwest corner of the diamond field, an area known as the “Pig Pen” because it’s so muddy. She was 20 minutes into her search when she found the diamond in some scoops of dirt that she dug out from a small mound. At first, she thought it might just be a quartz crystal because of its elongated shape, but the park staff eventually confirmed for her that she’d discovered a genuine treasure.

The diamond is about three-quarters of an inch long and about the circumference of a No. 2 pencil. A park staffer described it as “absolutely stunning, sparkling with a metallic shine, and appears to be an unbroken, capsule-shaped crystal. It features smooth, curved facets, a characteristic shared by all unbroken diamonds from the Crater of Diamonds.”

Oskarso named her gem the Esperanza Diamond, which is both her niece’s name and the Spanish word for “hope.” She has indicated that she’ll keep the gem, instead of selling it. Though sizable, it’s only the fifth biggest diamond ever found at the park. The biggest was the white 16.37-carat Amarillo Starlight found in 1975 by W.W. Johnson of Amarillo, Texas. While there isn’t a reliable estimate of the Esperanza’s value, CNN reported that another large diamond found at the park sold for $150,000 in 1971 and would be worth about $800,000 today.

More than 200 other certified diamonds have been found at the park already in 2015. Here’s a basic primer on how to hunt for them.

As it rotates, Pluto displays a strongly contrasting surface dominated by a bright northern hemisphere, with a discontinuous band of darker material running along the equator. Charon has a dark polar region, and there are indications of brightness variations at lower latitudes.

Tesla Model S Certified Used Electric Cars: Now On Sale Online

Want to own a Tesla electric vehicle but can’t afford to buy a brand new one? With Tesla Motors’ new online marketplace for used cars, now you might be able to.

The company quietly launched the Tesla Motors Certified Pre-Owned program last week, listing a slew of previously-loved Model S’s for sale. At this time, you can search for pre-owned Tesla vehicles in nine American cities and two states: Atlanta, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Cleveland, Seattle, Washington DC, Florida and Hawaii.

In our quick glance, we found a 2014 Model S P85 with 4,166 miles clocked in for $86,000. In comparison, the latest P85 model with all-wheel drive starts at around $105,000.


It’s still not a cheap investment by any stretch of the imagination, but if you’re itching to have your very own Tesla, at least now you can save several thousand dollars off.

 “American Reflexxx” — which predates both of those videos but only appeared on YouTube this month — starts from the same place: a camera following a woman as she walks through a public space, recording the reactions of the members of the public she encounters. In this case, the woman is Pierce and the space is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Pierce certainly cuts a striking figure. She’s wearing a skimpy blue dress and neon yellow heels, and most strikingly, her face is entirely covered by a reflective mask. She’s also of apparently indeterminate gender; much of the video involves passersby trying to work out if she’s a cisgender man or woman, or a trans woman, or what.
The results are, as one might expect, pretty depressing. People seem genuinely terrified by her — several times groups of people scatter as she walks toward them, and at one point a girl shouts, “Oh hell no, don’t walk this way!” As the film progresses, the reactions become more violent — she has water thrown on her, someone attempts to trip her, and eventually she is pushed head-first into the pavement. Notably, all the acts of violence against her are carried out by women. The film ends with a sort of survey of her body, lingering on the blood streaming from the knee she gashed open when she hit the ground.

How did we get here? In order to understand how the universe has changed from its initial simple state following the Big Bang (only cooling elementary particles like protons and electrons) into the magnificent universe we see as we look at the night sky, we must understand how stars, galaxies and planets are formed.
In the last few decades, string theory has emerged as the most promising candidate for a microscopic theory of gravity. And it is infinitely more ambitious than that: it attempts to provide a complete, unified, and consistent description of the fundamental structure of our universe. (For this reason it is sometimes, quite arrogantly, called a 'Theory of Everything').
  Perhaps the most remarkable thing about string theory is that such a simple idea works--- it is possible to derive (an extension of) the Standard Model (which has been verified experimentally with incredible precision) from a theory of strings. But it should also be said that, to date, there is no direct experimental evidence that string theory itself is the correct description of Nature. This is mostly due to the fact that string theory is still under development. We know bits and pieces of it, but we do not yet see the whole picture, and we are therefore unable to make definite predictions. In recent years many exciting developments have taken place, radically improving our understanding of what the theory is.

A powerful earthquake — the country's worst in 80 years — rocked mountainous Nepal on Saturday, killing more than 1,400 people and leveling buildings and centuries-old temples. Dozens if not hundreds remained trapped under mounds of rubble.

Hospitals in the capital of Kathmandu were so crowded that many of the injured were treated outside in the open, according to local media. The magnitude-7.8 quake, which shook a wide swath of northern India, Bangladesh, Tibet and Pakistan, also triggered avalanches in the Himalayas, killing at least 10 people on Mount Everest.

Nepal police said at least 1,457 people were killed. Given the scale of the destruction, the death toll could continue to rise. An emergency Cabinet meeting designated 29 districts as crisis zones, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

Around 180 bodies were pulled from the ruins of the nine-story Dharhara tower in the center of the capital, China's official Xinhua News Agency reports. It said about 200 were feared trapped in the rubble of the tower in the city's historic Basantapur Durbar Square.

"We had heard the earthquake stories from our ancestors and how I remember my grandparents telling me about the devastation of the 1934 earthquake and how it uprooted the Dharahara Tower then," said Sabita Lal of Katmandu. "I saw the same thing happen today to the tower. It was a massive one."

3.11 earthquake. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded to have hit Japan, and the fourth most powerful earthquake in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900. The earthquake triggered powerful tsunami waves that reached heights of up to 40.5 metres (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku's Iwate Prefecture, and which, in the Sendai area, travelled up to 10 km (6 mi) inland. The earthquake moved Honshu (the main island of Japan) 2.4 m (8 ft) east and shifted the Earth on its axis by estimates of between 10 cm (4 in) and 25 cm (10 in), and generated sound waves detected by the low-orbiting GOCE satellite.

On 10 March 2015, a Japanese National Police Agency report confirmed 15,891 deaths, 6,152 injured, and 2,584 people missing across twenty prefectures, as well as 228,863 people living away from their home in either temporary housing or due to permanent relocation. A February 10, 2014 agency report listed 127,290 buildings totally collapsed, with a further 272,788 buildings 'half collapsed', and another 747,989 buildings partially damaged. The earthquake and tsunami also caused extensive and severe structural damage in north-eastern Japan, including heavy damage to roads and railways as well as fires in many areas, and a dam collapse. Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said, "In the 65 years after the end of World War II, this is the toughest and the most difficult crisis for Japan." Around 4.4 million households in northeastern Japan were left without electricity and 1.5 million without water.
The tsunami caused nuclear accidents, primarily the level 7 meltdowns at three reactors in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant complex, and the associated evacuation zones affecting hundreds of thousands of residents. Many electrical generators were taken down, and at least three nuclear reactors suffered explosions due to hydrogen gas that had built up within their outer containment buildings after cooling system failure resulting from the loss of electrical power. Residents within a 20 km (12 mi) radius of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and a 10 km (6.2 mi) radius of the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant were evacuated. In addition, the US recommended that its citizens evacuate everyone within up to 80 km (50 mi) of the plant.

Early estimates placed insured losses from the earthquake alone at US $ 14.5 to $ 34.6 billion. The Bank of Japan offered ¥ 15 trillion (US $ 183 billion) to the banking system on 14 March in an effort to normalize market conditions. The World Bank's estimated economic cost was US $ 235 billion, making it the costliest natural disaster in world history
